Trenton Has Lost Yet Another Human Asset R.I.P. Patricia Stewart

Patricia Stewart

News of longtime Civic Activist and voice of reason Patricia Stewart's death is heartbreaking. First Dion Clark, now Pat who was just beginning her new endeavor on Trenton's first ever Ethics Board. Ahh, Pat, you will be sorely missed! My heartfelt condolences go out to her son Nick.

A video collection of some of Pat's comments before City Council are below.

Trenton Americans with Disabilities Act Committee

Trenton City Council

Thursday night, as I did Tuesday night I will be ducking the hot topic talk regarding the whole 'background' check issue and opting instead to focus on something more substantive, altruistic, and important; 13-56 an ordinance establishing a Trenton Americans with Disabilities Act Committee.

Sam Folgelgaren, a young, bright, and full of life College of New Jersey student is the brainchild behind the Committee. He is a caretaker for his brother Danny and knows all too well the obstacles that disabled people face.

There are currently 17,000 (plus) Trentonians in the City who will benefit from this Trenton ADA Committee. Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson, who visited Project Freedom at Trent Towers during her term many times, has received more than an ear full of what obstacles disabled people face on a daily basis in her Ward so it was meant to be when Sam approached Councilwoman Caldwell-Wilson seeking her to sponsor the formation of an ADA Committee here  in Trenton. She of course has answered the call and we are two meetings away from the final adoption of the ordinance and if passed; Trenton wins.

It will be the first ADAC in Mercer County and will make a difference in the quality of life of Trenton's disabled. Mr. Wiener, an attorney at the Community Health Law Project is on board and will help the committee navigate the 51-page Act of 1990.

Please support the formation of a Trenton ADAC and if need be you can contact the Committee via email at trentonadacommittee@gmail.com

R.I.P Dion Clark With Video Collection

Dion Clark passed away on July 21st, 2013

I worked side by side with Dion on a couple of projects and can sincerely state that he will be missed and that Trenton lost a warrior yesterday. Below is some of his work and you can read a New York Times article about him HERE

Rest in peace Dion, we will continue the struggle!

Making A Difference, Together; Not Just A Campaign Slogan

Eric Jackson

Last night I attended the official announcement ceremony for Eric Jackson's Mayoral candidacy and as always was impressed with Mr. Jackson's message, a message far different from Mayor Mack's campaign promise of "getting more Black's into City Hall," a sentiment At-Large Councilwoman Kathy McBride also echoed. Anyone who doesn't think that statement is bias and prejudice and just plain wrong.... needs a reality check.

I have always said that the best part about living in Trenton is that you can take a bus for $1.70 and figuratively take a trip around the world if you bother to speak and hold a conversation with the people sitting next to you. We live in a very diverse community and literally represent what the United States is all about; coming from afar, being different but living together, free, as one race; the human race. Our City has the opportunity to become one that other cities model themselves after and aspire to become more like, if and only if we can work together to bring this City back from the brink.

Unlike Mack, Jackson is well aware that the future of Trenton doesn't rest on one person's shoulders rather, it rests on us all. 'United we stand, divided we fall' is not just a pledge, it's the truth! And Jackson's campaign slogan 'Making A Difference, Together' is not just a slogan; it is the answer. Jackson won't be communicating with his Police Director (hopefully he keeps Director Rivera) through a door by passing notes under it. Jackson will not suppress the voices of those who wish to be heard and offer an opinion. Jackson recognises that Trenton's greatest asset is it's citizens.

A unified approach is the only approach, any other strategy will have the same outcome as the Mack administration's. We the people, want a seat at the table, we the people have something to offer and we the people....will not be ignored.

I know all too well how it feels to be treated different based on the color of your skin, my growing up in a predominantly African-American Wilbur Section can be compared to an African-American kid growing up in a predominately White Suburb. I absolutely deplore the feeling, so much so that at the age of 17 I formed a hip-hop group with City resident DJ Juice named 'Equality,' our concept was a White rapper and Black DJ making music that preached racial harmony and that we could move mountains united or climb over them divided.

In the last Trenton mayoral election in 2010 I met other candidates beside Mack that treated me different (gave me that look....you know the look) like John Harmon who was seated next to me at the Eric B & Rakim concert with Senator Shirley Turner. As soon as he saw me he gave me the look, the 'this White boy must be a cop' look, I know that look all too well, on the streets of Trenton a White boy like me is either a cop or drug buyer, we are stereotyped too in case you didn't know. Mr. Harmon made me so uncomfortable that I waited until after he left Senator Turner's side to approach her and thank her for saving the concert the NJSP wanted to shut down. I can name others as well as council candidates but I think you get my point. BTW Jim Golden was John Harmon's campaign manager.

When my good friend Andrew Bobbitt introduced me to Eric Jackson at a Church Fundraiser in 2009 I knew from the moment I shook his hand that he was the one, he was going to be the one to take the helm from Palmer and navigate Trenton into a better future. From the way that he embraced me I could instantly tell that there wasn't a bias bone in his body, he didn't see me as 'some White boy,' he saw me as a human being that cared deeply -as he does- for my community and the direction it was heading. I worked on his campaign in all sorts of ways, even performing Spoken Word at one of his fundraisers and I rarely perform my poetry. I was also one of the campaign workers chosen to count votes and we all know how that ended; three votes shy of a run-off election with Mack which Jackson would have won.

So now we know what happens when we don't register to vote or worse; are registered to vote but don't. We have learned that unlike a Presidential Election where the electorate vote trumps popular vote.....here in Trenton....the popular vote is the law of the land and absolutely every single vote is crucial....just an FYI. Many human beings have given their lives in the name of suffrage rights yet some people reading this post are Googling the word 'suffrage' right now. WAKE UP! Register to vote and actually vote! Your vote counts!

As I have stated before and I will state again - the third battle for Trenton has begun, it started right under our noses and we citizens have become soldiers - And the most valuable weapon in our arsenal is not the cannons used in the first two Battles of Trenton or even the element of surprise and trickery, no, our most powerful weapon in the battle to save Trenton in today's day and age is our power to vote. I will work on Eric Jackson's campaign a second time with faith that my fellow Trentonians, my brothers and sisters in arms, won't get it wrong twice in a row.

Peace Trenton

Video of Trenton Police Tackling Me After Helping a Woman Who Was Being Beaten

Below is the long awaited video depicting the unjust end of an incident that occurred on May 2nd, 2010 in the Chambersburg section of Trenton. Three years later I have finally been given permission to introduce this video to the public domain. After being violently tackled, falsely arrested and detained and maliciously prosecuted after stopping my car to help a woman being beaten by her ex (a Trenton Water Works employee named Jose Cotto who is also a convicted felon who served time for illegal possession of a gun), the fake charges against me were dropped in the Interest of Justice and I filed a lawsuit.

As I have stated time and time again, I was tackled by police on May 2nd while waiting to give my personal information to a police officer. The officers corresponding police reports state that I "fell on my own accord while backing away from them to avoid arrest" although I was never charged with resisting arrest. They claimed that they didn't touch me or facilitate my fall in any way.

You may need to play the video on a big screen or enhance it in order to see it crisp and clear (I am the guy in the yellow shirt) but even in this rough version you can see me clearly throw my hands in the air (which is a universal sign of surrender) while backing away to prolong the impact of the impending tackle yelling "I'm a witness" "I'm a witness" two times before being tackled like I was the guy with the football.

I have only been given permission to release the video and not the police reports. There is a Confidentiality Order imposed by the federal judge in this case and I intend to respect that order.

The outside lawyers the City of Trenton has hired (the same ones they hired to defend them against the OPRA lawsuit Jim Carlucci and myself brought against the City and won) are defending the officers actions and in my opinion this is why Trenton needs more in-house lawyers.

I am not going to file an Open Public Records Act request for the law firms legal bills thus far, I will wait until after the disposition of this case to do so, as to not appear to be a bully, but if your curiosity compels you to file your own OPRA request via the Trenton City Clerk's office regarding their legal bills then... so be it.

Please feel free to leave your comments on this matter and if you are able to enhance (not alter) the video because you are a wiz at that type of thing feel free to send me the video. nemesisraps@yahoo.com

If you are one of the people on this video witnessing this incident please contact me or my attorney Patrick Whalen whose contact information is to the right of this post.

There is a lot more to this case that I cannot reveal yet but I will as soon as the judge allows it, stay tuned.

State Orders Roberto Mendez Removed From Seasonal Security Guard position, Michael Morris To Be Reinstated.

Michael Morris pictured with Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson

The State Civil Service Commission has ruled that former Chief Park Ranger Michael Morris be reinstated and receive back pay retroactive to September 17th, 2011, furthermore it was ordered that Roberto Mendez - who was involved in the Park Ranger pay-stub debacle reviewed by the Attorney General's office and who also earned a tremendous amount of overtime for a seasonal employee - be removed from the position of Seasonal Security Guard.

Mendez (half brother to so-called City Activist Juan Martinez) has been a long-time Mack supporter and it was widely speculated that Michael Morris was fired to make room for Mack-crony Roberto Mendez for the security position, Morris meanwhile was transferred to the Trenton Animal Shelter and filed a lawsuit against the City.

When contacted for comment Monday evening Morris stated "it's bitter-sweet, it should not have happened in the first place."

City Councilwoman Kathy McBride says Trenton has serious epidemic of 'Blue Waffle Disease.'

City Councilwoman Kathy McBride

To my shock and amazement City Councilwoman Kathy McBride fell for a serious April Fool's joke as she announced during the Civic Comment portion of the meeting that "I received a call about a serious epidemic that is spreading and that one Trenton resident has now, it's called Blue Waffle Disease." For those of you who are not up on Urban slang, 'Blue Waffle' is what we men say about a woman who has a dirty vagina. It's a complete Urban Legend, it's just a slang term.

McBride made Sam Hutchinson come to the podium and asked him to have the Health Director look into the matter....lol......I wasn't the only person who immediately knew that someone was playing a joke on her but how could we help? The words were already out of her mouth. If Kathy McBride is considering a Mayor run she might want to learn how to use Google first.

In other City Council news, City Council President Holly-Ward suggested that the Council vote on the Docket tonight so as to cancel the need for a meeting Thursday, that motion passed and so did the Docket minus 13-147 and 13-150 which were pulled. You can review what passed and what was pulled in the post below this one. Also passed was the second readings of the ordinances on the Agenda.

The next meeting will be April 16th, I will be live streaming the meeting at 5:30 sharp. There were four public comments that mostly had to do with Director Rivera, one man's complaint is that the TPD website has not been updated with Rivera's information because it still has Juniak's info posted on it. He said our TPD website was an embarrassment, huh? Is this guy serious? I am not going to go into all that was wrong with his statement but Rivera was in attendance and who knows, maybe Rivera will start up the 'Directors Blog' again.

Throughout the meeting the notorious Daryl Brooks (self proclaimed Civic Activist that is better known for being a sex offender and Mack supporter) was antagonizing me throughout the meeting and as I was leaving City Hall. He used the terms "faggot who likes to take it up the ass" "go get some cupcakes" and a couple of other remarks. Mr. Brooks would find his time better spent promoting his Audio Book rather than coming to City Council meetings to antagonize me, from what I heard he hasn't sold one copy. Just saying....

There is a story up on the Trentonian newspaper website referring to the 'blue waffle' incident, I am the guy who came up to her and told her someone played a joke on her, you can read the story HERE

28th Annual Trenton St. Patrick's Day Parade This Saturday

The 28th Annual Trenton St. Patrick's Day Parade Saturday March 16th, 2013

The parade starts at St. Anthony's on Olden Ave. at 10:30am and then begins it's traditional route down Hamilton Ave. This year the parade committee is honoring Jim Walsh as Grand Marshal. Jim pictured below (behind the bagpiper named Walsh as well) started the extremely popular Mercer County Irish Heritage Festival which occurs annually at Mercer County Park and is two days long. Click on the above logo to the right of the page to go to the Trenton Irish Heritage Committee's website for more information on both the parade and festival. See you there!

Peace Trenton.

City Council Meeting Tuesday Feb. 5th

Trenton City Council Members

Tuesday's Agenda and Docket are below for your review, note that there will be a second reading and public hearing on the TESC Project, please read Kevin Moriarty's blog post HERE before attending the meeting. This is only a Docket review, the hearing where you can speak on the ordinance and when the ordinance will be voted on by City Council is Thursday February 7th.

Also note item 1e in the Communications and Petitions section (2nd page), it appears as though the young men who were in a brawl with off duty Trenton Police Officers at a local pub are suing us as they have filed a Tort Notice. One of the young men is the son of a retired Trenton Police Officer. To read more on that incident, click HERE --- I am hoping the Times of Trenton follows up on this article written by Matt Fair and gets a copy of the lawsuit and the disposition from the IA investigation to ascertain whether charges were sustained against the officers' involved in the brawl.

Live Stream will be for Thursday's meeting, this meeting is just a Docket review.

Do You Know Your ABC's? Trenton Alcohol Beverage Control Hearing.

For all of those who complain (as I do) that bars and liquor stores are seemingly on every corner in this City, get involved!

Note that one of Michael Matucheck's licenses is due to be discussed----Matucheck has owned a couple of different bars/liquor stores that has caused citizen concern.

Matucheck is famously known for having so-called civic activist Juan Martinez lobby City Council on his behalf regarding opening a Latino-themed trouble bar that they were attempting to mascaraed as a family restaurant.

Martinez was specifically asked if he had any financial interest in the bar by Council after Northward Councilwoman Marge Caldwell-Wilson surprised both men with a flier that was being circulated for the not-yet-granted-permission to open bar, the flier had scantily clad women all over it, Martinez answered "no" to the financial interest question however later found himself in legal hot water over the bar and it came out that Martinez did indeed have a financial stake in the want-to-be establishment.

Martinez is a documented liar! so, of course, their scheme to open a trouble bar was exposed and disposed of.....denied!

The Agenda for tomorrow nights meeting is below for your review, it should also be noted that the public cannot speak at these meetings (unless they are brought in as a witness) but may observe.

Need some funds? Turn in your guns!

Check the attic, a deceased loved ones boxed up items, and anywhere else you can think of for a gun and turn it in. If you don't find it, a burglar might and he/she might hurt or kill a fellow human being with the stolen gun, don't let that happen. If your search of your own home turns up a gun and you turn it into Mercer County Law Enforcement agencies you will receive complete anonymity, and money, up to $250.00 no questions asked.

I don't care what the critics say about gun buy back programs, 'they are a waste of money,' the guns turned in don't work and couldn't hurt a fly,' etc. I say if you combine all of the costs of these types of programs nationwide and it adds up to a Billion-dollars, if it saves one, just one human life, it's worth it!

When: Friday and Saturday January 25th and 26th, 2013 through the hours of 8AM and 8PM.

Where: Greater Mount Zion A.M.E. Church at 42 Pennington Ave. Trenton and Pentecostal Assembly of God at 65 N. Clinton Ave. Trenton.

Peace Trenton.

City Council Meeting and Meet & Greet Afterthoughts

Trenton City Council Members

First off, for all of the parents out there, the Trenton Fire Department is handing out 700 toys at the Roebling Market complex at 10AM and 11:30AM Friday December 21st. Thank you to George Muschal for announcing that during Civic comments.

I first attended the City Council Meet & Greet (conversations with Council) at 4PM. It was a good meeting, it went so well in fact Council President Holly-Ward said they would do it once a month in 2013. I would guestimate that twenty-three residents attended as well as mayoral hopefuls, press and Council members. Councilwomen Holly-Ward and Caldwell-Wilson and Councilmen Chester and Muschal fielded most questions and concerns from those in attendance. Obviously missing was all of the Park Rangers, there was none and I pointed out that security which is overseen by Roberto Mendez has become dangerously lax when it comes to City Council events. I have not seen a metal detecting wand in over six-month's.

Dan Dodson read a short presentation on behalf of The Majority For A Better Trenton. Read it below.

Majority for a Better Trenton Strategic Plan and Goals.

Then someone was speaking and started quoting Rush Limbo (Limbaugh) and that was my cue to exit and wait in the hall for the regular council meeting to start. It started late but went by quickly for the most part, if I'm home by 8PM I'm happy.

The Agenda went quickly with only a handful of public speakers and Civic Comments. Below is an impassioned plea for unity by Dan Dodson and preceding Dan is African American Chamber of Commerce President John Harmon looking for answers to questions he's been asking for quite awhile now. I think Council members can relate, they are still waiting for answers for their own abundance of questions.

Speaking of questions and answers which seemed to be the theme of the day, after the docket was addressed, West-Ward Councilman Zachary Chester reminded me of a tenacious litigator as he fired off good points and good questions about the bust of President Obama in the City Hall Atrium. As I was listening to Councilman Chester I felt like I was in an episode of Law & Order or something. Chester was directing his questions towards Anthony Roberts (who was not in attendance) via Sam Hutchinson with a couple of questions directly for Business Administrator Hutchinson like "did Roberts have permission from Hutchinson to purchase the base for the bust?" Hutchinson answered "No, he did not have my permission."

Chester asked why Roberts, as president of the Obama Bust Committee (or whatever they are called) was seemingly performing Committee business on City time. Chester stated that he was handed a 4-page reference to the bust two days before it was presented and he received it via Roberts during regular business hours for the City. President Holly-Ward described it as two Anthony Roberts: one the Committee President and one the City employee.

When Chester put forth a motion to have a resolution drafted to demand Roberts and the City employees on the 'Bust Committee' appear before Council to answer a lot of hard questions....Holly-Ward asked "which Roberts do you want?" "Both!" Chester exclaimed. The motion passed and a resolution will be drafted and one of the other good questions is....Chester said while looking at the invoice from Stone Tech he saw that the base was paid for ($1,000) but questioned whether we can be expecting a bill for installation because installation was not included in the price of the base? Chester said 5 contractors are on the plaque of names of the donors and that is clearly a pay-to-play violation and hopes that all donors know that they can't write off their donation with the IRS unless Roberts 'Bust Committee' is an official 501c3 non-profit organization. The plot thickens.

And so will my waistline this Holiday Season (as usual) and in the spirit of the Season I will end the year by writing one good thing about Kathy McBride, 'I am growing to very much enjoy her Multi-Cultural Holiday Display in the atrium and thank her for including that big ole' Christmas Tree, even if it was defecated on by pictures of the Indicted Occupant of the mayors office.'

Because I noticed in the 'traffic' and 'audience' section of this blog that (for some reason) people from every Continent on earth is reading what I write......I will end this post with....

I wish all of you a happy and safe Holiday or Holidays's depending on your individual belief's, see you next year!

Peace Trenton

City Council Afterthoughts

Trenton City Council Members

Well very few folks were able to attend last nights Council meeting so it went rather quickly due to a few things: the minutes were finally accepted by City Council and are completely up to date (congratulations City Clerk's Office); there were only a few public speakers and Council breezed through the docket.

The only resolution pulled for a hearing was # 12-683, the liquor license renewal of a pocket liquor license held by Michael Matucheck. As you may recall Mr. Matucheck had Juan Martinez speak on his behalf before Council regarding opening another 'trouble bar' at the intersection of Anderson and Hudson streets in the City's Chambersburg section.

Martinez testified to Council that he "had no financial interest in the bar whatsoever." He lied, which is why I am no fan of his and do not trust him.

One interesting point is that some bids such as the one for Municipal Court language translation services are being rejected because the State of New Jersey DCA is taking too long to approve them, the bids have to be approved within 60-days of it's submission although a 60-day extension can be requested.

Kathy McBride wants the community to know that there will be an Open House for Trenton City Hall's Multi-Cultural Holiday Display in the Atrium Wednesday December 19th and toys that were collected by Trenton firefighters will be handed out to children who attend, it starts at 5PM sharp.

I spoke and weighed in on a couple of matters, first about the plaque on the Obama bust in the City Hall Atrium and I also weighed in on Councilman George Muschal undermining Trenton Police Director Ralph Rivera in the press. Council has repeatedly stated how they loathe the Mack administration communicating with them through the media/press yet Councilman Muschal is doing the same thing with regard to Rivera.

Unfortunately I felt like Clint Eastwood speaking to an empty chair at the Republican National Convention because neither of the two men were present for the meeting last night. A video of my comments is below.
Multi Cultural Holiday Display Flier
